On October 16, the Competence Center for Inclusive Education Saxony-Anhalt (KIB) celebrated its two-year anniversary. Over 80 people gathered in the auditorium of the Stendal Campus at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences to honor this significant milestone.
The celebration began with welcome speeches from prominent guests, including the university's rector, Prof. Dr. Manuela Schwartz, Thomas Neumann from the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection, and Environment of Saxony-Anhalt, and Dr. Christian Walbrach, the State Government Commissioner for People with Disabilities. They all emphasized the importance of the KIB and its pivotal role in promoting inclusion in Saxony-Anhalt.
Dr. Wiebke Bretschneider, the KIB’s overall coordinator, reflected on the institutionalization process of the former "Inclusive Education Saxony-Anhalt" project from 2017 to the present and expressed gratitude to supporters and her team.
In addition, KIB’s educational specialists offered insights into their daily work, sharing the challenges they face and their motivation to pursue their roles. Notably, four more individuals began their qualification as educational specialists at KIB in July of this year. Three of them introduced themselves during the event.
A musical highlight was provided by inclusion ambassador and rapper Graf Fidi from Berlin, who performed four songs addressing the topic of inclusion artistically. Between songs, he engaged in discussions with Prof. Dr. Matthias Morfeld, KIB's scientific director and the event's moderator, covering topics such as the implementation of the UN CRPD and his experiences as an inclusion ambassador.
The midday buffet that followed offered an opportunity for in-depth exchanges between guests and hosts. Conversations made it clear that the comprehensive insights into the work of the Competence Center for Inclusive Education Saxony-Anhalt helped deepen the understanding of its importance in advancing inclusion efforts.
